The City is an online tool to help you connect to the vision and mission of Hope.

What made Hope decide to use The City?

Hope has grown in size significantly over the last few years. We found it difficult to announce everything that was going on at Hope on Sunday mornings, and we were lacking a good way to communicate with everyone at Hope. Because The City is an online tool where people within the church connect and communicate, we believe that it will help us to be more people-focused and group-oriented in our approach to communication. Our goal is to make it easier for people that are new to Hope to find ways to connect and serve, and easier for leaders to facilitate real-life, word-of-mouth communication between groups of people.

How is the City different from other social networks like Facebook and Twitter?

Typically, interaction on social networks starts and stops online. You post a picture of your lunch, your friends like and comment on it, and that’s that. Social media can create a false sense of connection by trying to replace real life interaction with a post, comment, or like. The City, on the other hand, is specifically designed to facilitate community and mission amongst actual groups of people within the church who meet, work, and pray together in real life. Simply put, we do not depend on The City to create a sense of digital community and mission, rather, we use it as a digital tool to help facilitate the real life community and mission that we are already doing.

What does The City do that other social networks can't?

While The City is primarily a communication tool, it is not only a communication tool. It also allows the people of Hope to do things like give online, meet other people from Hope who live in their neighborhood, find volunteer opportunities based of their skills, and check their children into Hope Kids on Sunday Mornings. Because The City is just for the people of Hope Community Church, it allows us to do some powerful things that we simply could not do using other social media sites.

Is The City just one more thing to keep up with?

On one hand, yes, The City is another thing that you’ll need to get into the habit of checking regularly, but, on the other hand, your involvement on The City can still be high while your actual time online can be pretty low. By setting your notification settings to “Daily Digest,” you can still get information from all of the groups in which you’re involved on The City in one easy-to-read email. Messages and topics can be replied to from your email account, and by using The City app on your phone, you can keep yourself logged in for easy access at any time.

Should my kids sign up?

Much like other online accounts, The City requires that all users are 13 and older. All users between the age of 14 and 18 are only able to receive messages from people who they are friends with. This allows parents to keep tabs on the people their children are interacting with on The City.

Who should I add to "my family"?

The Family feature in your profile settings is designed for our admin staff to see who is part of your household. Your spouse should be added to your account to link your giving records and to allow our administrators to see your connection. Your children should be added to your account if they are using kids Check-in on Sunday mornings.

Is The City private?

Yes, it is! The only people who can see your City account are other people from Hope who also use The City. No one can google your name and find your City account. On top of that, you have complete control over who can and cannot see your contact information. Click here to learn how to adjust your privacy settings.

No one will ever sell the information you share via The City. The City is owned by a company named ACS Technologies which specializes in creating software solutions for local churches. The City is overseen by Hope staff, and is designed only for our use.

Pastors and staff members do not have unlimited access to the content posted on The City. No one does. The only people who can see content posted within a group are the people who are a part of the group. Any prayer requests or needs that you share within your Small Group or other groups are only accessible to the members of that group, unless you specifically choose to share them with other friends and/or groups.

Can we offer services and share needs on The City?

How can I give online through The City?

When logged into The City, click on the “Giving” link on the left side of your home screen.  From there, you can select the fund and amount that you would like to donate. You can choose to set up one-time or recurring donations, and you can choose to save your checking or credit information if you like. If you’ve given to Hope in the past, but cannot find your giving record on The City, it’s possible that you set your giving up through our website. If you’d like to give to an LDIer or the LDI account, you’ll need to do that through our website, as The City is not set up for those accounts.
