The Look That Stung

Luke 22:54-62

54ŒæThen seizing him, they led him away and took him into the house of the high priest. Peter followed at a distance. 55ŒæAnd when some there had kindled a fire in the middle of the courtyard and had sat down together, Peter sat down with them.56ŒæA servant girl saw him seated there in the firelight. She looked closely at him and said, äóìThis man was with him.äó 57ŒæBut he denied it. äóìWoman, I donäó»t know him,äó he said. 58ŒæA little later someone else saw him and said, äóìYou also are one of them.äó äóìMan, I am not!äó Peter replied. 59ŒæAbout an hour later another asserted, äóìCertainly this fellow was with him, for he is a Galilean.äó 60ŒæPeter replied, äóìMan, I donäó»t know what youäó»re talking about!äó Just as he was speaking, the rooster crowed. 61ŒæThe Lord turned and looked straight at Peter. Then Peter remembered the word the Lord had spoken to him: äóìBefore the rooster crows today, you will disown me three times.äó 62ŒæAnd he went outside and wept bitterly.
