Baptism of Joy Grittner
I grew up going to church every Sunday, I was taught to always follow God’s plans that he had for me. But I never really felt the connection to God that everybody else had, I never really loved going to church until I came to Hope. Hope helped me understand the plans God has for me and how to live as a child of God. When I was in 5th or 6th grade I was talking to my mom about church and asking Jesus for forgiveness, in a grocery store, she told me that I would know when I was ready to ask for forgiveness. So that night I asked my mom to help me ask for forgiveness as we were sitting at our coffee table. After that I knew I was saved but it didn’t really feel like it. I expected something miraculous to happen, but nothing did. Even though nothing happened I know that I am saved and there is nothing I can do to lose forgiveness.
A passage that has been meaningful in my faith journey is Jeremiah 29:11- “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
This verse just reminds me of the plans the Lord has for me and I need to follow it. I decided to get baptized because I want to declare to everyone that I’m ready to give all my life to God and that I am a follower. I’m on God’s team and I wouldn’t want to be on any other team.
