God Is A Giver

In 2 Samuel chapter 7 King David wants to build a permanent home for the Ark of the Covenant, and through the prophet Nathan, God tells David that instead of David blessing God, God will bless David more than ever before and more than he could ever have imagined.

David, overwhelmed, goes into that temporary tent the Ark was in and he says:
“Who am I, O Sovereign LORD, and what is my family, that you have brought me this far? And as if this were not enough in your sight, O Sovereign LORD, you have also spoken about the future of the house of your servant. Is this your usual way of dealing with man, O Sovereign LORD?”

The finish line of a marathon (or any big event like that) can be a very emotional place, especially when you never expected to make it. I was injured while training for the Twin Cities Marathon this fall and thought for sure I’d never see the finish.

I kept on because I felt God was using this training season to do something. I didn’t know what it would be, but I wanted to see it through. At that finish line I was overwhelmed with God’s love and the feeling that ‘Yes! This IS God’s usual way of dealing with us!’.

I’ve been through rough times, and in those times I thought that it would never end: that that was what life was going to be.

The truth is that the ups and downs in this life are both temporary (even if they last a long time), but God and the blessings He pours out are eternal.

The ultimate way God deals with His little humans is overwhelming love and blessing. Our God is a giver, He is generous, and it brings Him joy!

I trained for the marathon with Team World Vision and a part of the training is fundraising to provide clean water to communities in Africa that need it, so I really crossed two finish lines: the marathon and my own little fundraising goal. They say water is life, and this is the best and biggest blessing God gave me this year: that I got to be a part of God’s loving plan to bring life to these brothers and sisters of mine that I’d never met but whom God loves fiercely, like he loves me.
