Baptism of Miles Trump

In 2012, I was in a place in life where I wondered what my purpose was. I had recently graduated from college, started my first job at a newspaper in North Dakota and said goodbye to my girlfriend (who is now, thankfully, my wife) as she moved to attend graduate school in North Carolina for two years. I had “things” to be hopeful for, but I felt empty inside. My way of life wasn’t working.

I wondered why I was here, what I was supposed to be doing in this life. Not long after that, I repeatedly began feeling like I was being nudged in a certain direction. It took me a long time to realize it was God, poking me and saying, ‘Hey, come follow me.’” I had grown up in a family that went to a Lutheran church almost regularly, but I never paid much attention to God until he started pulling me his way. The nudging continued, and after reading and learning more about Christ, I chose to follow and put my trust in him.

That was the tipping point between who I used to be and who I am now. I still believe I’m in the infancy of my faith, but my hunger and thirst to know God is insatiable. Although my life isn’t in any easier — and in some ways it’s much more challenging — I trust the Lord knows exactly what He’s doing with me. One of the pieces of evidence for his work in my life is the numerous ways I’ve been transformed as a man since I first turned to Christ. I want to be baptized to declare my love and faith in Christ and to obey his teaching. And so that I might, as Paul says, “walk in newness of life.” (Romans 6:4).
