The Legacy Campaign

What  is  the  Legacy  Campaign?

This campaign is to help purchase and renovate Augustana Lutheran Church.  Two years ago, we projected that we would outgrow our current facility.  That time came, and God simultaneously provided the opportunity to buy ALC, which is directly next to our current property!  Our desire is to update the property for our ministry needs, and also to continue on the legacy that Augustana started 145 years ago!

That’s the summary version.  Attached are two documents below that can give you all the detailed information on how this came about.  We pray that it ministers to you.  Even though it took a lot of time and effort, God’s sovereignty is so clearly seen!

Intent to Purchase Augustana
This document is what we presented to Augustana Lutheran Church, of which both of our congregations voted and approved.

Why  is  this  so  important?

We want to honor God by helping as many people as possible become fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ.  That’s always been the vision, and will continue to be the vision.  God has been doing amazing things at Hope, and this building is a key part to our continued prayer for God to be glorified in our city, state, and world.  To state it clearly, we don’t want another building for the sake of having another building, to grow Hope’s name and popularity, or for the sake of just growing an organization.  We want another building so that we can:

  • more effectively share the good news of Jesus Christ to our city, to our state, and to our world through the
  • proclamation of the gospel,
  • bringing people into community,
  • impacting our culture,
  • raising up leaders, and
  • planting new relevant and reverent churches.

What’s  the  timeline?

We’re looking to acquire the property on April 30.  We then hope to do all renovations over the summer, so that it’s ready to be opened by September 1.  Therefore, we’re looking to get most one-time gifts and pledges in by April 25.

How  much  is  needed?

All of the financial components involved in the closing of the property is $410,000 ($219,219 purchase price, $50,000 transition gift, $120,000 for CES, and around $20,000 for miscellaneous legal costs incurred with closing).  For renovations on the property, we’re looking at around $860,000.  That puts us at a grand total of $1.27 million.  Though, before we even started this campaign, we already had $230,000 come in, so we only have about $1 million to raise!  See the above video for what is included in the renovation costs.

What  if  we  don’t  raise  enough?

Well, to be frank, if we don’t raise the funds, we can’t do the proposed renovations.  The space won’t be able to meet the needs we have.

Are  these  gifts  tax-deductible?

Yup!  They sure are!

Have  further  questions?

Will  you  consider  giving?

This is a large endeavor.  We need your help.  The hard part about a growing church is that it can often get hit by the bystander effect – people just assume that other people will take care of it.  It can happen with discipleship, evangelism, giving, and service.  Don’t let that happen here.  We need YOU!

Has Hope been a blessing to you in some way?  Maybe God used it to bless you while you were in college.  Maybe God used it and you heard the gospel for the first time in your life.  Maybe God used it to as influential instrument in the life of a loved one.  Maybe God used it to ignite your faith in ways it hadn’t been previously.  We want to continue to help as many people as possible become fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ.  Can you help us do that?

Throughout this process, there will be countless opportunities for you to sacrificially give from your time, talents, treasure, and ticker (your heart).  Sacrifice, by definition, means that it’s giving up of something.  We know we’re asking a lot.  But we’re hopefully and trusting that God will allow you see what He’s doing, and that it would be an excitement and joy for you to take part in it!
